Brother Rabbit and the Tar Wolf from The Child’s Reader- Third Reader by H Browne et al

African American, Native American, rabbits & hares, wolves

This illustration of Brother Rabbit and the Tar Wolf comes from the Public Domain book, The Child’s Reader- Third Reader by H Browne et al (Project Gutenberg #15170).  Described as a Native American legend, it is interesting to examine the similarities and differences between a version such as this and that of Br’er Rabbit and the Tar Baby in Uncle Remus: his Songs and Sayings (Project Gutenburg #2306) which inspired Disney’s Song of the South.

I have also made a black and white image of the rabbit which can be used as a stamp or photoshop brush.
